Life....Follow the rules or get doomed

Winston Churchill once told about the army officer of 5th division of the British army ,”He was never perturbed by the most fearsome situations. He used to make obstacles break on him ,those would get broken into pieces without himself getting destroyed .He was like an iron peg riveted into an ice….absolutely immovable! “ Such should be the tenacity of the man, dedicated, consecrated to the job at hand, not affected even a wee bit by the herculian scenario. The same intrepid mindset is shown by the mountaineers while facing adverse situations.

Life’s like mountains to climb, one after the other. When one mountain is climbed upto its peak, the base of the second becomes visible .The destination is like an oasis, never really achieved in reality because human beings can’t reach the height of the almighty who sits at the top of the highest mountain. So success is a journey and not the destination!

The only thing that remains in our hand is to enjoy each and every moment of painstaking climb, helping other mountaineers in their work ,sharing their sorrows ,multiplying their happiness, sacrifice for them in case of extreme situations .Initial scene in the movie ‘vertical limit’ portrays the crux of life. The man who sacrifices his life for other mountaineers in that movie has really understood the essence of life. This tenderness of the heart which has given rebirth to somebody apparently contradicts the earlier indomitable spirit to reach the pinnacle of glory, prosperity, journey in search of ‘happiness’. The people who keep others happy live an ultimate life. The sooner we realize this better it is for us because fact of the matter is that happiness lies within us and we keep on searching for it outside our mind and soul. This is the biggest irony that the world creates, refuses to accept it as irony but ultimately surrenders itself with defeated mind at the feet of The Great GOD.

The materialistic attitude of the human beings is solely responsible for the ever changing definitions of happiness. The competition in today’s world has grown to such an extent that we have transformed ourselves into a robot lacking emotions. Today we are in a position to go to any limit to find ourselves at the top of the ladder. We have slowly but surely started losing the tranquility of mind and sense of insecurity has firmly embedded itself at the bottom of our hearts. This is probably because we aren’t really listening to our hearts and mind has superceded our heart which is the source of all kinds of emotions.

As we evolve over a period of time , by this rate our mind will go far ahead of our heart which is certainly not so good from our point of view. This is because our mind can’t differentiate between certain bad and good things. For example , taking bribe isn’t a right thing to do, that’s what our heart says but we always take the call of our mind which tells us to be practical. It will eventually lead to a very thin gap between good and bad.

It will definitely be a challenging thing to face for us. Darwin’s theory of ‘Survival of the fittest’ holds true in today’s world. Having said that there are two kinds of people living in this world today .The broad classification will be done on the basis of faith in god., theists and atheists. When the person faces series of failures in life, his confidence gets a beating. He does all kinds of things to bolster the confidence. But the most obvious reaction would be to cling onto something great which he thinks will get him out of the mess. The fact of life is that person always needs somebody’s help ,especially in the trying circumstances. So theists are those people who use faith in god as their volition. When we find ourselves in a fix, we seek for motivation from somewhere. But the best motivation is the self motivation which is obtained by inculcating tremendous faith in GOD. A true theist never does wrong things in life because he is answerable to someone who is far above him in terms of greatness.

True atheists have the original confidence in them along with a burning desire to succeed without taking anybody’s help. Such people find this GOD concept very silly indeed. This is one way of living life in which you only consider yourself responsible for unpleasant things happening in your life. Now atheists can be classified into two groups namely those who believe in destiny and those who don’t. The concept of destiny makes us believe that this world is deterministic. But those who find this concept of destiny quite unnerving , believe in creating their own destiny. I think this is the best possible way to live life because such kind of thinking gives a deep meaning for our existence. We must understand that every human is created to do something special in life commensurate with his ability. Those who can find out the reason for existence live a comprehensive life.

One more quality that I feel keeps one going is the killer instinct. When the situation seems hopeless, the most common reaction is to surrender to the situation and compromise in order to survive. The smart person will accept the situation as it is but never make an abject surrender however big the task may seem. ‘ never say die attitude’ goes a long way in developing a lot of self respect no matter what the ultimate result is. One thing that everyone should remember is that we never lose unless we accept it as defeat. If that is imbibed in mind , we always keep on finding one or the other way to bail ourselves out of trouble. On the other hand when things seem to be working for us, we have to make most of the situation and inculcate the killer instinct to achieve perfect finish. Complacency is our biggest enemy because we often tend to underperform in which we underestimate the situation and make a fool of ourselves. Self betrayal is the worst kind of betrayal , and quite an embarrassing one.

Acceptance of oneself as one is the first step in the development of a responsible, prudent , level headed personality. One is supposed to know each and every detail of one’s personality which guides him in every situation faced by him, howsoever grim it may seem. Success is a relative term because the definitions keep changing from person to person. So we must define our own idea of success and act in order to get as close to it as possible. Many a times we compare ourselves with the other person on the basis of trivial successes and failures we encounter in day to day life but these have very little to do with we actually getting into the proximity of our very own destination called success. The better one knows oneself , better he can get to terms with various incidents that either boost up his confidence or ramshackle it thoroughly. Here thinking plays all important role and the output depends totally upon the objectivity of our cognitive processing. We human beings, are very emotional entities. Emotions , without a shadow of doubt are integral part of us but its amazing to see how these become an obstacle when it comes to decision making. The decision making is a balancing act and it is supposed to be a result of astute thinking and emotional poise. Experiences of many people tell us that in such circumstances , one ought to know oneself in and out. One must avoid doing things which don’t seem viable at that particular moment. One should keep aside all kinds of negative emotions like egoistic attitude, anger , revengeful thinking.

Having said all this, habitual desire of the mankind to trust an impulsive call of heart or mind will continue to take him forward in life. We often act on the spur of the moment , our actions being impromptu nine out of ten times. We are so much enslaved to emotions that decisions are often guided by an ‘ instinct’ ,surprisingly it often helps us come out winners. Howsoever deep we dig to find unraveled mysteries of magical machine called brain and source of myriad emotions called heart, we at the moment have only a modest technology and limited imagination to delve deeper into this fascinating subject. More and more theories would be coming in ,conjectures and speculations would keep supporting the theories but it’s almost impossible to expect human beings to be on the right side of mystery called life. This uncertainty about what life is all about, enhances our curiosity to explore more and more of it, gives only an ephemeral joy having explored small speck of it, keeps us glued to the earth seeing the overwhelming complexity of a nicely plotted play the great almighty.
